Bourtzi Castle, Greece
Bourtzi Castle is a medieval century castle located in the middle of the harbour of Nafplio, Greece. The castle was built by the Venetians in 1473 as a defensive fortification against the pirates and invaders from the sea. Until 1865 it served as a fortress but afterwards the Bourtzi Castle was transformed into a residence of the executioners of the convicts. Between 1930 and 1970 the castle was used as a hotel. Since then the castle is opened to the public.
