Neuschwanstein Castle, Germany


The Neuschwanstein Castle is a 19th century castle located near Hohenschwagau and Füssen in southwest Bavaria, Germany. The castle was built between 1869 and 1886 by Ludwig II, King of Bavaria who died before its completion. The design of the magnificent castle in the late Romanesque style of the early 13th century was made by Christian Jank, while Eduard Riedel and later Georg Dollmann and Leo von Klenze carried out the construction.

When Ludwig II was declared insane and taken to the Schloss (Castle) Berg in 1886 where he died in the same year the Neuschwanstein Castle was not completed and many rooms remained bare. However, the Neuschwanstein Castle which was opened to the public only seven weeks after Ludwig's death is one of the most visited and popular castles in Germany.
